Bronchoscopy

Bronchoscopy is one of the effective methods that are used to detect the lung cancer. In this process the air ways are analyzed by inserting a small pipe into the person who has to be diagnosed. The process is used to detect whether there is any foreign objects in the person, any blood oozing due to lung cancer or there has been any blocks in the air pipe.

The analysis are done using bronchoscopes and they are classified into two namely the rigid and flexible bronchoscopes. As the name indicate, the former is rigid and cannon be bent inside the air pipe and hence can be inserted only in a particular direction and can view only specified path. The former bronchoscope is flexible and can adjust itself to the air pipe and can be used to view more than one place. Thus the latter is used in most cases than the former. The rigid bronchoscopes are used in the cases where the patient is bleeding in order to place a stent to stop further bleeding.

Lung Adenocarcinoma

Lung cancer is classified into couple of primary types and one among them is the non-small carcinoma. Lung adenocarcinoma comes under this type of carcinoma. Under non-small cell carcinoma, they nearly account for fifty percent of them. They are mainly found in the case of women and people who do not smoke.

In case of these types of cancer that affects the lungs of the patients, the symptoms are hard to be detected and in most cases they are found only when the cancer has crossed the stage 4 of it and where it nearly becomes impossible for it to b cured. Studies do show that they are common mainly in persons who have are below the age group of mid forties. The symptoms are same as in the case of other types of other types of lung cancer where there would be a coughing up of blood through nose and mouth and cough that prolongs way long when compared to the normal coughs due to common cold.

Sputum Cytology

The diagnosis of lung cancer is done by many methods; one of such methods that is used to detect them is Sputum Cytology. The method involves analysis of the mucus in one’s body which is considered to have the symptoms of lung cancer. The sputum is actually not as same as the saliva but it is different from it in the fact that it is obtained from the air pipes.

The collection such samples can be done either in the hospital under the guidance of the doctor or in the home. In the case of collecting the samples at home, the patients are allowed to collect the samples in specialized containers that can preserve the samples for couple of days or more. Usually in Sputum Cytology three samples are taken for consideration. For better result in collected the samples, the patients can rinse their mouth by water twice or thrice before coughing to collect them. By analysis the collected samples, the group of abnormal cells can be found and hence lung cancer can be diagnosed.

Stage 4 Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer is actually categorized by the size of the neoplasm that has disseminated to the other parts of the human system or in some cases the neoplasm could have affected the other lobe of the lung as well. Doctors further classify the stage in terms of TNM system, where the T refers to the size of the tumor, N refers to the lymph nodes and the M denotes the metastatic disease.

In the T system, the stage is further classified as T1, T2, T3 and T4. In T1 the size of the neoplasm is well below the three centimeter mark and in the case if T2 the sixe is above it. In the case of T3 and T4, the size doesn’t matter, the neoplasm are located near and in the air ways respectively. And in the case of M, it is classified as M0 and M1where it refers to no presence of metastases and spreading of the neoplasm to the other lung and also between the layers that lines the lungs.

Treatment of Stage 4 Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

In this stage the cancer has already spread beyond the air bags and has infected various other organs. Hence at this surgery could be of no meaning since the organs cannot be removed because they are already completely damaged by the unhealthy cancer cells. But at this stage one could not say that the cancer is not completely untreatable.

One such treatment that can be used to increase the life span of the patient is the chemotherapy and there exist two types in it, namely the traditional one and the targeted form of it. Both the types of it can be used in the patients who can actually with stand it. But the fact is that these treatments can only used to increase the victim’s life span and relieve them of their pain temporarily but cannot be cured. There are also come cases where patients who have survived even this stage by the help of above treatments. So it is better not to lose the hope in their loved ones but can actually give a try which may work in the favor of them.
